Bartimaeus Institute Online (BIO)
BIO is a series of online, curated classes developed around BCM’s key themes. There are five available classes: four are introductory, one is advanced. Classes consist of 4 or 5 weeks of content; they can be taken at your own pace, individually or in a group. They include a mix of recorded audio talks, video presentations, published articles and questions, arranged around weekly topics.
The list of available classes is below. Depending on demand, we also run BIO Study Cohorts which combine the online BIO material with in-person attendance at a Bartimaeus Institute (which includes a BIO Cohort colloquium). Prices start at US$30 for each class.

BIO Study Cohorts
Study Cohorts work through each of the introductory BIO classes. In addition to online gatherings, the Cohort includes one or two in-person gatherings.
If you have a group that meets our requirements, we may be able to tailor a Study Cohort for you. Left: BIO Cohort in 2018.
BIO Classes
BIO-A01 Radical Discipleship
Explores key themes and ideas behind an approach to faith that “works at the roots” of our Discipleship tradition and of the issues of justice and violence facing us today.
BIO-A02 Restorative Justice
Introduces principles and practices of restorative solidarity and how they can be applied to a variety of personal and political issues.
BIO-A03 Sabbath Economics
Overviews the biblical vision of “enough for all” in both testaments, and summarizes key household practices.
BIO-A04 Biography as Theology
Focuses on life stories of exemplary (yet ordinary) people of faith and conscience and the social movements they helped build, and invites participants to work on their own stories of discipleship.
BIO-B01 Watershed Discipleship
Highlights how a bioregional framing of Creation can animate deeper literacy and engagement in environmental stewardship, advocacy and identity, and explores the notion of the church as a “watershed parish.” Profiles a dozen younger theologian-practitioners, based on the 2016 anthology edited by Ched entitled Watershed Discipleship: Reinhabiting Bioregional Faith and Practice.
