7th Sunday in Epiphany, 2-20-25

In the Year C lectionary, Mark Scibilia-Carver writes, “many years do not have a 7th Sunday in Epiphany because Lent intervenes too early. But this year it is included, and the Gospel reading is Luke 6:27-38. This contains the second and third instances of Jesus’ imperatives to ‘love your enemies,’ called by Benedict XVI ‘the Magna Carta of Christian Nonviolence’.” Ched offers reflection on this week’s text in our last excerpt from his www.worshipdesignstudio.com conversation with Dr. Marcia McFee, Rev. Ben David Hensley and HARP cover artist Ted Lyddon Hatten here (14 min).

And because economic violence underlies most issues which violence reduction work engages, we’re sharing with you the recording of our great President’s Day webinar with Chuck Collins of inequality.org. Chuck is the foremost organizer against

plutocracy in the US, and wrote the Foreword to HARP; he talked deeply and widely about current terrain of issues Ched’s book addresses. This was the first President’s Day weekend in almost 20 years that we did not host a Bartimaeus Kinsler Institute in our bioregion, so consider this a mini-BKI! Settle in for an amazing conversation with a brilliant mind and heart (100-min; link here).

Finally, this month we lost two beloved elders who have been friends, mentors, and co-animators of our best work. We named our BKI after Gloria (and her late husband Ross) Kinsler in gratitude and respect for their life work of teaching and embodying liberation

theology in Central America and the U.S. (picture left). And Rev. Nelson Johnson of the Beloved Community Center (picture right) has been a giant in worker justice and truth and reconciliation work for 60 years, and co-curated Word and world Schools with us. We miss them both, and honor their gospel love and witness. May they rest in peace.

Note: Bookshop.org is still listing HARP on backorder; we continue to yell at Fortress and the distributor to get stock flowing again. We encourage you to order your copies through this independent bookstore consolidator; this month with the discount code CHEDMYERS20 you can get HARP for under $40!
